Whilst doing a daily scan of our Instagram feed we couldn’t help but stop and notice the latest campaign by Net-A-Porter, featuring this seasons luxurious fringed, crochet-knit cotton cardigan designed by Chloé. Instantly we felt a strong connection between this incredible 70’s inspired cardigan and our much loved Geronimo Shag Cushion!

After a little more research and the discovery of an article in The New York Times detailing the muse behind Chloé’s Fall ’16 Collection, Anne-France Dautheville, we haven’t been able to stop talking about this incredible and unassuming lady. The now 72-year-old Dautheville famously motorcycled from Paris to Afghanistan in the 70’s as a courageous and adventurous 28-year-old. Her free spirit and sense of adventure deeply resonates with us as we try to encapsulate this idea of wanderlust with every range we design at Sage x Clare.

In 1973, she became the first woman to ride across the world solo on a motorcycle, trekking three continents and covering more than 20,000 kilometres. The humble Dautheville is quoted to have said, “There had always been traveling women, but they had been exceptional women, I am a normal woman. I am not exceptional at all. I’m not especially courageous, I’m not especially strong … it was the first time an average person could do all these things.” Well Anne-France Dautheville – we think you are incredibly exceptional, courageous and strong and we hope that we too will one day have a little bit of all these qualities in us.

With love,

Sage x Clare
