Out In The Open

The other day, I noticed a particularly stylish woman walking through a store. What made me notice her, was her unbelievably chic shoes. As she lolled about the fitting rooms, assisting with her friend’s fashion dilemmas, I literally had an internal argument with myself that went something like this -

should I ask her where her shoes are from?

No, don’t do that you loser!

But, I really want to know

I know you want to know, but people hate it when you ask them things like that

Please, let me just ask her quickly

No, you’ll just embarrass yourself and then it will be really, really awkward

So, after losing this argument with myself, I watched her and her shoes leave forever. Enter The Design Files Open House concept, which relieves the need for crazy internal dialogues…in an interior sense anyway. Set up like a real home, everything in it is available for purchase, from the couch down to the bedlinen. That’s right – you don’t even have to consider awkwardly asking where something is from. If you’re in Melbourne, you really must check it out – from Thursday November 29th to December 2nd. x

DIY Quilt Light

Now described as ‘the darling of Australian craft design’, Tamara Maynes is the DIY genius behind these quilt lights. Available for purchase from the six week boutique, these lights will come in the form of a template, all ready for you to paint, washi tape, stitch, or embellish in whichever way takes your fancy. And if you don’t like DIYing on your lonesome, workshops are also available to join fellow inspired DIYers in Melbourne and Sydney. I fear, in a short while, you’ll find me covered in washi tape and cardboard clippings, sitting in a home lit up like a Christmas tree. I can get sorta addicted to these projects…

Maricor/Maricar

Completely blown away by the works of sister duo Maricor and Maricar… Who knew embroidery could be so cool? Exhibiting this month in Needle Work Needle Play at Brunswick Street GalleryI hear their work is even more incredible seen close up. Check out their website or online store for more of these little beauties x

White Space

Although the sun had already risen by the time I woke this morning, I started my day with sun salutations at the glorious White Space Yoga Studio in Camberwell. As I drove there, my head was pounding and I wanted nothing more than to turn around and go home. So glad I didn’t, as by the end of the class my headache was gone and I was feeling calm and refreshed. A reminder that it pays to take some time out and stop… Thanks Clare for a lovely class x

Collections

Worked on a shoot at The Establishment yesterday… Not only is it a beautiful space, but it is also a treasure trove of the most fantastical items sourced from all over the world. Everywhere you look there are interesting goodies gathered together – I could peruse their collections for hours!

Kirra Jamison

Last year, during a visit to The Design Files Open House Exhibition (which I blogged about here), I came across Kirra Jamison’s art. With all of the other fabulous goodies exhibited around the home, it was Kirra’s work that stole the show. Isn’t it Aaaammmmmmazzzing?
