Out In The Open

The other day, I noticed a particularly stylish woman walking through a store. What made me notice her, was her unbelievably chic shoes. As she lolled about the fitting rooms, assisting with her friend’s fashion dilemmas, I literally had an internal argument with myself that went something like this -

should I ask her where her shoes are from?

No, don’t do that you loser!

But, I really want to know

I know you want to know, but people hate it when you ask them things like that

Please, let me just ask her quickly

No, you’ll just embarrass yourself and then it will be really, really awkward

So, after losing this argument with myself, I watched her and her shoes leave forever. Enter The Design Files Open House concept, which relieves the need for crazy internal dialogues…in an interior sense anyway. Set up like a real home, everything in it is available for purchase, from the couch down to the bedlinen. That’s right – you don’t even have to consider awkwardly asking where something is from. If you’re in Melbourne, you really must check it out – from Thursday November 29th to December 2nd. x

My Heart Wanders

It is quite something when a stranger, who you only know as far as their online persona, can inspire and motivate you to start following your dreams… That is exactly what Pia Jane Bijkerk of Pia Jane Bijkerk blog did to me as I regularly stopped by her blog to relish in the peaceful, dreamlike, and wholesome atmosphere created by her images and words. Pia’s books are equally magical and meditative and can now be bought via her own bookstore, with the treat of being signed and wrapped by Pia herself. Enjoy x

Gypset Travel

I really must warn you that a flip through Julia Chaplin’s latest offering, Gypset Travel, may see you making some rather hasty but gloriously irresponsible decisions – aka – quitting your job and buying a round-the-world ticket. But who wouldn’t want to be a gypsetter (that would be a gypsy + jet-setter) when it looks so damn magical?

To buy – and don’t say I didn’t warn you – go here. You’ll also find her other book Gypet Style, which may indeed just push you over the edge x

White Space

Although the sun had already risen by the time I woke this morning, I started my day with sun salutations at the glorious White Space Yoga Studio in Camberwell. As I drove there, my head was pounding and I wanted nothing more than to turn around and go home. So glad I didn’t, as by the end of the class my headache was gone and I was feeling calm and refreshed. A reminder that it pays to take some time out and stop… Thanks Clare for a lovely class x

Office Living

Isn’t it funny that when it comes to our homes we often spend so much time on making our living, bedroom, and kitchen amazing, but when it comes to our work spaces they are often resigned to an uninspiring corner or locked away in a room? After setting up a study room months ago, I have spent the last couple of days reshuffling things again to bring my work space out into my general living space. I prefer the openness and I’ve tried to make it an inspiring place, surrounded by images and small treasures I’ve collected. A brand new iMac kinda helps too!

Don’t you love what these people have done with their work spaces?

Fig+Yarrow

Perhaps it is just wishful thinking, but with the popularity of blogs and online stores like Etsy, I feel like a more conscious consumerism is emerging. Sure, it is still so easy to jump on Strawberrynet or head to your nearest department store, but it feels so much more rewarding to purchase and support an actual individual striving to make their mark on this earth. With the time spent working on my own business and deciding what type of products and industries I want to support, I’ve really begun looking closely and admiring others out there who have a gift and passion that they share in their own small way. Which is why I was so taken by these exquisite hand-crafted, mostly organic, apothecary products. The brains behind FIG+YARROW, Brandy, describes her business as ‘essentially just a lady working away in her humble studio/kitchen’ practicing a form of kitchen alchemy. I cannot wait to try these products, made even more magic by the fact that each one has been made by hand with love.
